On
Saturday, January 22nd, America will meet another
date which will live in infamy, to paraphrase President Franklin D. Roosevelt's words about the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. To turn an anniversary of an advance of the Culture of Death into a time for pro-life prayer and witness, the
United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has asked Catholics and other people of good will to observe the anniversary of the
Roe v. Wade ruling of the U.S. Supreme Court, which imposed legal abortion across America, as a
National Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children.
Supporting the initiative of the
Ulster Deanery Respect Life Committee, which coordinates the Catholic pro-life movement in Ulster County,
our parish invites all people of pro-life good will to all and each of the following activities on Saturday, January 22nd:
8 a.m. Mass of Reparation at Presentation Church, 209 Hoyt Street, Port Ewen,
followed by a Holy Hour of Reparation there.
3:45 - 4:45 p.m. A Holy Hour of Reparation at Sacred Heart Church, 1055 Broadway, Esopus. Confessions will be available at the Holy Hour.
The Vigil Mass for the III Sunday of Ordinary Time will follow, as usual, at 5 p.m. there.
Furthermore,
the U.S. and Vatican flags near parish churches will be lowered to half-mast for that day as a sign of mourning, distress, and protest on this tragic and embarrassing anniversary for our nation.
Kyrie, eleison! Christe, eleison! Lord, have mercy on us! Christ, have mercy on us!
May our prayer and witness - along with those of other parishes implementing or cooperating with the initiative of the Ulster Deanery Respect Life Committee -
be pleasing to God. May January 22, 2022 become the
LAST anniversary of
Roe v. Wade, so that the work of prayer, advocacy, education, charity, and witness may begin anew
state by state to help steer our culture
to preferring life over death as a solution to human problems and challenges.
