Let us pray for the blessed repose of Rev. Fr. EUGENE GROHE, C.Ss.R., once pastor of Sacred Heart

We have received the sad news of the passing away of Fr. Grohe (1924-2023), who enjoyed the abiding affection of many people, Catholics and non-Catholics alike, in the Town of Esopus and vicinity. Due to perfectly understandable concerns over logistics and space, the Redemptorist order to which Fr. Grohe belonged had decided to locate the wake and funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, Kingston (160 Broadway) instead of Sacred Heart Church. Nevertheless, as the site of more than 50 years of Fr. Grohe's ministry, it is incumbent upon us parishioners at Sacred Heart Church (and, out of solidarity, from Presentation Church) to pray for Fr. Grohe's blessed repose as Father had prayed for so many of the faitful departed over more than half a century. November 29: Wake 10:30 a.m. - 1:45 p.m., Mass 2 p.m., Burial to follow immediately afterwards at the Redemptorist cemetery at the Mount Community (once Mount St. Alphonsus Seminary), Route 9W, Esopus. Also on November 29, although daily Mass will be offered at 8 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, the Mass scheduled there that day at 11:30 a.m. is hereby cancelled. Our Lady of the Hudson, pray for Fr. Grohe! St. Alphonsus Ligouri, founder of the Redemptorist Order, pray for him! St. Eugene, pray for him! The flags at both churches of our combined parish will fly at half-mast in mourning for a while.
